10 tops demos with Australian Survivor, HYBPA?

Ratings: The Block wins its slot but not the demos. Nine still claims the night overall.

Nine has long maintained it prefers demos over Total People, which means The Block has a battle on its hands.

Last night The Block won its slot with 916,000. But while Australian Survivor was a serious contender at 819,000 it was champion across the demos.

Next across the slot were Australian Story (600,000), 7:30 (585,000), Highway Patrol (506,000) and Motorbike Cops (492,000).

Have You Been Paying Attention?  won its slot at 780,000 -and was second in the demos for the night. It defeated This Time Next Year (664,000), Four Corners (519,000), Media Watch (482,000) and The Rookie (391,000).

Seven was strong early in the evening with game shows and News helping it to secure second place for the night.

Nine network won Monday with 28.0% then Seven 26.1%, 10 21.5%, ABC 16.8% and SBS 7.5%.

Nine News 920,000 / 891,000 was best for Nine. A Current Affair drew 832,000, down on last Monday, and Hot Seat (470,000 /273,000).

Seven News was #1 with 1.08m / 1.05m for Seven then The Chase (637,000 /382,000) and Home and Away (652,000). SWAT was 287,000.

The Project was 527,000 / 316,000 for 10 then 10 News First (369,000), and a Just for Laughs special (266,000). Celebrity Name Game was 232,000.

ABC News (647,000), Q&A (276,000) and The Drum (182,000) comprised ABC’s other shows.

On SBS it was Royals at War (217,000), 24 Hours in Emergency (168,000) and SBS World News (156,000), while Mastermind was just 64,000.

Dinosaur Train on ABC KIDS topped multichannels with 189,000.

  1. Loving Survivor! So happy that the ratings are finally starting to reflect what the show deserves. The fact that the audience is still growing in it’s 4th year is a fantastic result! The only thing I don’t like is how quickly TEN are powering through it this year. 3 nights a week is good at the start, but I’d much rather it be on Monday-Tuesday every week, Sunday nights seem to rate lower on average. I think that the show would absolutely dominate Wednesday Thursdays. David, do you know if it is once again 24 episodes this year? Or if the powering through the episodes so quickly is because it’s once again 26 episodes like 2016 and 17?

      3. Absolutely delicious episode and one which makes The Jury Villa episodes immediately essential viewing. There’s still plenty of drama to be had from the remaining Survivors so I’m looking forward to the end game.

      4. Yes, David has been magnificently entertaining. Funny as well and ridiculously good – looking.
        The villain you love to hate.
        In his Car Ride video on the Survivor Facebook site he said he hoped we’ve all enjoyed the character he’s been playing in the game .(Apparently he’s had acting lessons as well.)
        I do wonder at times if some of the contestants are encouraged to play a character, rather than just being themselves, to be more entertaining. Hopefully not scripted!

        1. He said a few times that he was playing up the male model stereotype of being dumb and vain. Apparently the outlandish clothes were part of it. I think it was just his strategy not a scripted plan.

    1. I completely agree!! I can’t watch television that involved at that time – I quite often find myself riled up and therefore had to stop watching because I wouldn’t be able to get to sleep after it so late!!
