Axe falls on US drama for Georgia Flood

Cable network axes American Princess which featured Aussie in the lead role.

Bad news for Aussie Georgia Flood with the axe falling on the US drama she was starring in, American Princess after one season.

Flood, whose credits include House Husbands, Home and Away and Anzac Girls, has the lead role in the series produced by Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black, Weeds).

She plays Amanda, an Upper East Side socialite who runs away from her own dream wedding when she realises that the life she thought she wanted, wasn’t actually right after all. When she stumbles upon a Renaissance Faire, she experiences an unexpected awakening, leading her to leave everything she thought she cared about behind. While at the Faire, Amanda quickly develops new friendships, rivalries and romance that opens her eyes to new beginnings.

The series was the only scripted title on female-skewed cable channel Lifetime in the US but Deadline reports but the network denies it is getting out of the scripted business.

American Princess has not yet screened in Australia.
