Axed: The OA

Mystery thriller starring Brit Marling is not returning to Netflix.

Complex US drama The OA has been axed after 2 seasons.

The mystery thriller starred Brit Marling as a blind woman who disappeared seven years ago only to suddenly return with her sight restored. Now referring to herself as The OA, or Original Angel, she then recruits a small team to help rescue other people who have disappeared by opening a portal to another dimension.

“We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA, and are grateful to Brit and Zal for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix. “We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”

  1. This is a curiosity as there was positive speculation it would return as Brit Marlin had 3 seasons in mind to complete the answer, whatever that was supposed to be. In reality it became just another trans-dimensional yarn, and there’s been plenty of those lately. Netflix is becoming a bit of a mystery lately as well, perhaps this cancellation is part of a cost cutting measure based on Netflix’s secret ratings numbers or overblown budgets elsewhere, which maybe will become an interesting topic for the future.

  2. Well now you’ve sold me on this show. The Prisoner is one of my all time favourite shows. Nothing except maybe the Twin Peaks revival has come close the the sheer madness of the final episode!
