New international roles were announced for Aussies this week.

Damon Herriman has a key recurring role on Amazon’s Underground Railroad, Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s bestselling novel. The story centres on young Cora, a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. Herriman will play Martin, a station agent for the underground railroad in North Carolina. He also can currently be seen in the role of Charles Manson in both Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Mindhunter and recently in Lambs of God.

Meanwhile Ben Lawson (13 Reasons Why, Designated Survivor, Neighbours) has been cast opposite Katherine Heigl in Netflix’s Firefly Lane, a drama series from Maggie Friedman (No Tomorrow) based on the bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah. It follows the story of Tully (Heigl) and Kate, two unlikely best friends who meet as young girls and become inseparable for nearly 30 years, until a tragedy breaks them apart. Lawson will play Kate’s ex-husband Ryan, who also has a long history working with Tully.

  1. Damon Herriman is unrecognizable as Charles Manson in Mindhunter creating quite an amazing jail interview scene. In fact the choice of actors who portray the featured serial killers in Mastermind all do a brilliant job helped by the excellent scriptwriting. Netflix is ever so slowly improving its production consistency and may it continue to do so.
