Renewed: Succession

Incisive HBO drama about the dysfunctional clan running a media empire gets a third season after just returning for its second.

HBO drama series Succession has been renewed for a third season, after just 2 episodes of its current season.

“We are elated that Succession and its exploration of wealth, power and family has resonated so powerfully with audiences,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Drama Programming.

“We cannot wait to see how the complex characters that Jesse Armstrong has created continue to navigate this captivating, ruthless world of the uber-rich. In today’s world where the intersection of politics and media is increasingly prevalent, Succession presents an especially piercing look behind the curtain of this elite, influential, and cutthroat community.”

The series created by Jesse Armstrong, follows the dysfunctional Roy family as they struggle to retain control of their media empire, and features Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Aussie Sarah Snook, Hiam Abbass, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Peter Friedman.

Numerous reviews have likened the premise to the fortunes of the Murdoch clan, but there are elements of Royal family and Shakespeare also in the plot.

Season 2 is currently screening in Australia on FOX Showcase, and having seen 5 episodes already let’s just say there is no let-up in the malevolence nor outrageous behaviour.
