Disney+ has released a trailer for its anticipated Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Set in the Star Wars universe, the series takes place a few years after the events of Return of the Jedi and follows a lone Mandalorian gunfighter beyond the reaches of the New Republic.

Pedro Pascal stars as The Mandalorian with the cast including Nick Nolte, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Werner Herzog and the voice of Taika Waititi. There will be eight episodes in the first season.

Ewan McGregor will also reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in further original series for Disney+.

Disney+ launches in Australia on November 19 at $8.99 per month with The Mandalorian at launch.

Disney look to be putting a lot of their eggs in one basket, so must anticipate a record sign up rate for its coming new streaming service, dangling a carrot or two like ‘The Mandalorian’ will get headlines in the entertainment media. Considering the criticism Disney received for its recent story telling fiasco keeping the Star Wars movie franchise active The Mandalorian will need to jump start a new Star Wars era by itself.
