Call to “ignore the critics” as Today claims Sydney win

After months of headlines, finally some sunshine for Nine's breakfast show.

The Today show has claimed its first weekly win in Sydney for 2019.

Today averaged 71,000 in Sydney to Sunrise‘s 62,000.

That was enough to prompt Nine News boss Darren Wick to tweet the victory.

But Sunrise Executive Producer Michael Pell also took to Twitter not long afterwards with a timely reminder of how big the gap is.

He added, “Well done to the entire team and thank you to our loyal viewers for starting their day with us. We never take it for granted and we are very grateful for the support.”

The battle rages on…

  1. I’m sorry ,but its killing me watching you all trying to gel. I don’t like sunrise, but I have to switch.
It looks really fake, just be yourselves. Hopefully switch back to channel 9 today in the future.

  2. Such a shallow industry isn’t it. Both shows have a loyal audience, and both shows are presented by people who are just trying to make a living. I can’t imagine how stressful it must be to have a career that is dependent on TV ratings, and Radio is even worse. Life is short, make the most of every achievement, big or small.

  3. This would be laughable if it weren’t so pathetic. Darren Wick has clearly lost the plot and is grasping at scraps to salvage his reputation. Best fire the lot of them and start over.

  4. i mean sure a win is a win… but its interesting that Mr Pell feels threatened enough to point out the obvious. Yes Sunrise is clearly the winner (lord knows why) Wick seems to be doing what any manger would do and give the team a public encouragement award. I don’t think its the turning of the tables just yet. But take a chill pill Mr Pell, its all going to be ok.

    1. I agree Camo2, it’s one week in one city – given the torrid year the new team on Today have endured, you’d have thought Pell might have been gracious enough to just let them have it.
