60 Minutes has been attracting worldwide attention for a promo in which Karl Stefanovic spoke with vocal critics of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
“The Markle Debacle” promo dissects “how Meghan Markle lost her sparkle” and speaks with far right British commentator Katie Hopkins. In the promo Hopkins unleashes a tirade of insults.

New York Magazine contributor Yashar Ali: “Members of the Royal Family are not above criticism, but this racist hit piece is an absolute disgrace.”
Arvind Hickman, News Editor of PRWeek UK: Does @60Mins realise how despised Katie Hopkins is in the UK and what her claim to fame is? When did she ever become an expert on the Royal family or anything British, other than UK bigotry? This is a really, really embarrassing oversight by Nine’s flagship current affairs show.
Mark Di Stefano, Buzzfeed: Worth thinking about the fact Katie Hopkins cannot get *any* work in the UK media. Like, I mean she literally cannot get booked on TV or in newspapers, anymore. Can get on Australian TV though.
MP Clare O’Neil : For god’s sake just leave the poor woman alone. Why promote such nastiness?

The ironic thing is last year it was Karl being harassed, judged, everyone turned on him and now he is doing a story on Meghan who is copping the same deal. I would have no idea how she is behind closed doors.
I mean if we are to believe the women’s magazines then apparently she is selfish, controlling not a great mum, fights with everyone, sacks her staff,causes family tension and is moving out.
What I see is a woman who made Harry smile again and makes him happy and is now a mum who adores her son.
I really hope this is the usual sensationalist headline & it’s not like it’s being portrayed. I’m hoping Karl defends Megan & puts these idiots criticising her in their place. The only people saying she has ‘lost her sparkle’ are the stupid media. All the people jumping up & down maybe should watch it before judging it.
And the promo has had 7 million views on Twitter alone! Insane.
The marketing people have done their job
I personally don’t have any issue with a program exploring exactly what went wrong for the Duchess. Her PR has been a disaster and her popularity has plummeted. I’d like to find out why. The one mistake 60 minutes might have made was including the comments of Katie Hopkins, who is paid to be a controversial figure. They are much better sticking with the Royal reporters and former staff (Jephson, Arbiter, Kay, Morton, nicols and the like) who might actually be able to throw a bit of I formed light on the subject instead of si ply being opinionated and rude like Hopkins usually is.
It might be time for CBS to revoke the licence Nine has to use the “60 Minutes” name in Australia if Nine is going to tarnish the respected brand throughout the world with such garbage reporting. Perhaps “ACA Sunday” would be more appropriate.

Free speech is generally associated with politics. What has it got to do with this piece of grubby tabloid rubbish?
Free speech… means you are free to speak whatever (try speaker’s corner), and we are free to never ever show up…
I believe in free speech, but hate speech is most unattractive and unnecessary. Nobody has the right to publicly denigrate anyone in such a manner as to cause hurt and offence.
I reckon this will be a good yarn come Sunday, I’ll be ready with my popcorn.
Not to long ago Harry and Meghan were the darlings of the Australian Media. There were those burning through the budget to offer us mere mortals wall to wall coverage of the wedding followed thereafter with Harry and Meghan’s tour of Australia last year. It would seem though the media both here and in England have had a change of heart since the birth of Archie. How dare the couple decide to host a private Christening therefore robbing the morning shows and gossip magazines much needed fodder to chew over. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. A pox on 60 Minutes for creating a non-story. And it’s not a good look either for Karl or Channel 9 after his tumultuous year.
I don’t get the outrage that 60 Minutes has stooped so low. It has been bottom trawling for many years now. That they do this rubbish could hardly be a surprise to anyone.

I no longer expect better from this network. The Liberal fundraiser was a low point, and this shows they have no intention of reaching any higher.

I don’t understand why the media wants us to hate Meghan. You can’t make a story based on speculation, outsiders opinion’s and hearsay. I guess it’s the same reason the media try to make Roxy Jacenko a celebrity, so they have something write about or televise.
The biggest problem is that no matter how big the uproar, more people will watch it because of the controversy. As long as people watch it the stations don’t care what is said. All publicity is good publicity so they say.
I think Nine are trying to live up to Paul Keating’s “ethics of an alley cat” comment.
Katie Hopkins was a terrible choice of commentator to interview. She’s virtually universally discredited and regarded as an out-and-out racist in the UK

It’s apparently a race issue for this Hopkins woman. I’ve never heard of her but read the tweets from the people who have heard of her.
A bunch of grubs at Sixty Minutes……they should have more respect and they seem to have short memories, look what the media did to Harry’s mother Diana. Gosh they make me angry, I rarely watch this program and certainly wont be watching this rubbish. And no, I am not a monarchist.
