Emmy snubs & surprises
Veep didn't win any awards, but the cast did get a standing ovation yesterday.

There were more than a few upsets at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, with somewhat unexpected wins including for Julia Garner, Billy Porter and Jharrel Jerome.
But that’s the beauty of awards shows. They don’t always go to the favourites.
Veep didn’t win any awards, but the cast did get a standing ovation for their final season. Next best thing perhaps?
The Handmaid’s Tale also missed out, including for Aussie director Daina Reid (beaten by Jason Bateman for Ozark), although only a handful of episodes were eligible due to timing.
In their final year of contention, no Game of Thrones actress has ever won an Emmy. Sorry, Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner and Gwendoline Christie – all were nominated along with Carice van Houten for Guest Actress in a Drama.
Also going home empty handed were Sharp Objects, Schitt’s Creek, This is Us, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, Russian Doll and The Good Place.
Some managed wins at the Creative Arts earlier.

GOT actor did win-Peter Dinklage. Well deserved and David do you have something against GOT? You sound thrilled that none of the actresses won. i’m surprised at you.
Nope, I watched every episode. Maisie is particularly fine, including in Cyberbully.
Given that D’Arcy Carden didn’t get nominated at all for the Janet(s) episode of The Good Place prepared me for The Good Place missing out altogether I think as I wasn’t that surprised and it’s at the top of my list of shows. Maybe for next year they can splash out a little more cash to put up billboards all over LA saying to consider it or spend more than the roughly $1 million on a top-tier Emmy campaign the others do or maybe they can employ Tom Gleeson to run a Social Media Campaign.
Like mentioned below Veep has done well over the years and also has the distinction of being one of the rare remade for USA UK shows that has done well, alongside All In The Family and Three’s Company to name but two (Wilfred was as well but an Aussie one).
I was disappointed that GoT episode The Long Night was overlooked. That was 90 minutes of spellbinding action that left me quite literally gasping at the end. I thought it deserved a win.
Julia did not look happy when she lost, she forgot her “gracious loser face” for sure!! (Friends quote)
Poor old Better Call Saul. Dissappointing to see it miss out yet again.
Such a brilliant show but probably too subtle and understated to win an Emmy.
If Julia had won she would have had the most Emmy wins by a performer & most by a character in the same role
Veep has had its time. And whilst I was a little surprised it didn’t win anything (especially because the Emmy’s do like a repeat winner and often honour outgoing long running series), it’s received plenty. It was a great season though and Julia was stiff to miss out.
