Gruen returns strong. Footy Show farewell leads in Melbourne.

Ratings: TV shows were battling all kinds of problems last night but viewers kept the faith.

The (apparently) last-ever Footy Show was a big drawcard in Melbourne where it was the top performing show of the night.

The show drew 420,000 viewers overall, 328,000 of whom were in Melbourne alone. That was much healthier than the weekly numbers a revamped show was attracting earlier this year of around 100,000. The Melbourne audience was also up on last year’s grand final edition of 247,000.

The Block was #1 with 963,000 and topped the demos.

Hard Quiz (630,000), 7:30 (528,000), The Celebrity Chase (416,000) and Bondi Rescue (361,000 / 333,000) followed.

Gruen was plagued by tech problems in some cities but still rebounded with an impressive 754,000 viewers. Utopia (638,000) and The Footy Show (420,000) followed across the hour.

Nine network won Wednesday with 33.4% then Seven 25.8%, ABC 16.6%, 10 15.8% and SBS 7.0%.

Nine News was 809,000 / 796,000 for Nine then A Current Affair (703,000) and Hot Seat (408,000 / 246,000).  Queen: Days of Our Lives was 203,000 in 2 cities.

Seven News won its slot with 924,000 / 914,000 for Seven then Home and Away (578,000), The Chase (549,000 / 340,000). Britain’s Got Talent was 282,000.

ABC News (608,000), The Set (189,000) and The Drum (159,000) comprised ABC’s remaining shows.

The Project was 444,000 / 243,000 for 10 then 10 News First (330,000). Celebrity Name Game was 195,000 and a Movie: Muriel’s Wedding repeat was just 169,000.

On SBS it was Britain’s Ancient Tracks (222,000), SBS World News (138,000), The Looming Tower (110,000), and Mastermind (74,000).

Bluey again led multichannels at 189,000.

Sunrise: 280,000

  1. Nothing on last night,Utopia and Gruen were good but pretty dismal viewing for the rest of the night. The Set reminded me of Rove a bit, it tries very hard, and a re run of Muriels Wedding that must be the 100 th time thats been on.

  2. The target audience for The Set is mostly triple j listeners, and I would say a large portion of them don’t watch FTA TV so the show was always going to struggle to get numbers.

  3. It’s good that the Set doubled its audience with an earlier timeslot straight after Utopia, but still a steep drop off, even though Jessica Mauboy was one of the acts performing, I thought she might have prompted more people to keep watching. Although I have my own opinions about what Oz bands I would love to see on the Set (Collarbones? Methyl Ethel? Tropical F-storm?) it’s still a fine show that deserves more viewers.
