Filming of Young Wallander has begun for Netflix with Swedish actor Adam Pålsson (The Bridge) as Kurt Wallander, in the series based on Henning Mankell’s novels.
Kenneth Branagh played the detective from 2008 – 2015 but the new series, from the original producers Banijay Group and Yellow Bird UK, sees Wallander investigate his first case.
The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal – faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties.
The cast also includes Richard Dillane (Superintendent Hemberg), Leanne Best (Frida Rask), Ellise Chappell (Mona) and Yasen Atour (Reza).

The English-language drama series is told over six serialised episodes, set in contemporary Sweden, and screens in 2020.

Kenneth Branagh does have a stoic theatrical countenance about him like Lord Olivier did, his Wallander role probably should have been given to a Swedish or Danish actor as well, but overall he did a reasonable job making Wallander a success. Even though English is widely spoken in Nordic countries I would have presumed Young Wallander would have been released in their language as well.
I remember seeing him in the Swedish-language Don’t Wipe Tears Without Gloves and he was fantastic. It’s a top miniseries, check it out on SBS On Demand.
Couldn’t agree more! The Swedish version is vastly superior. Same goes for The killing, The bridge, et al.
BTW, I realise the killing is Danish.
I would have to disagree with you on one point….I feel Krister Henriksson made the role more famous than Kenneth Branagh ever did…..In fact, I personally did not care for Branagh in the role…just saying.
