Peter Murphy marks 35 years of presenting Tassie weather
Is Peter Murphy Australia's longest-serving weather presenter?

Congratulations to Seven Tasmania’s weather presenter Peter Murphy who this week marks 35 years of bringing the weather to viewers -possibly an Aussie record?
Murphy presented his first weather in 1984Â for TNT-9 Southern Cross with Tim Lester (now at Seven in Canberra and often currently seen in the same bulletin).
Back then temperatures were placed onto a magnetic map.
“There was only a magnet on one end and the other end, and every time we would put it up on the board it would slide down while we were doing the weather,” he tells the Examiner.
Murphy traditionally wraps his reports with a dad joke, and last night the bulletin featured this special tribute.
Congrats!

From 1986, Jenny Woodward bas been ABC News Brisbane weather presenter, but she’s only done 33 years. Well done to Peter.
I had the pleasure of working with Murph for over 15 years. Always fun, he’s a legend! Well done buddy x
Shades of Groundhog Day for Tassie weather presenters …every night would begin with ” very cold and the chance of rain”…even in the middle of summer …apart from that it’s a great place to visit.
Not quite true. The summers in Tasmania are warm and dry.Bushfires are more of a problem inTasmania in summer than the cold and the wet.I should know as I live there.
35 years wow congrats Pete. He is the reason why I watch 7 Tas news every night. Such a great personality knows what he is doing. He likes to crack a joke at the end of his report to Jo or Rachel about their daily lives he is just hilarious.
I would recommend watching him when you are in Tassie never to disappoint.
Btw Jo is married to pro ballroom dancer and teacher Andrew Palmer who was on DWTS when it was on Channel 7. Her daughter lily andrew’s stepdaughter was in the recent Channel 10 one with Jet.
When it’s that cold you’d want someone there to cheer you up a bit lol
A weather presenter with a personality… Adelaide use to have those lol.
Sydney viewers would be happy to send Tim Bailey south but you have to make sure he stays there.
Same with Gavin Morris from NBN.
I don’t think he’s retiring. just celebrating the fact he’s been doing the same job for 35 years… Gosh even I nearly fell asleep typing this lol.
