Rumour: Seven interest in Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan.

More rumours on the future for ex-MasterChef judges, this time as a duo.

Seven is reportedly keen to sign Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan for a new cooking show, but not their MasterChef colleague George Calombaris, according to media reports.

The Age reports the network is interested in the pair for a cooking show for its post-Olympics schedule under new CEO James Warburton.

But all three judges, understood to be contracted to 10 until the end of the year, have been united publicly as a trio act. Press rumours have swirled around a possible future with Nine / Stan, Netflix and Amazon.

Justine May from talent management agency ChefsInk, which represents Gary Mehigan, said there had been “lots of interest and discussions both within Australia and internationally, but no deals have been done”.

Seven is also understood to be ‘refreshing’ My Kitchen Rules after abandoning a second season due in 2019, amid rumours of contestants sharing house MAFS-style.

Seven will announce its Upfronts slate on Wednesday October 23.

10 is hoping to announce its new MasterChef judges at Upfronts on October 10.

  1. Just because Seven are interested doesn’t mean the two will agree. George has been vehement in his opinion that the two will remain loyal to him and “the band will get back together soon”. Interesting if this isn’t the case…

  2. I reckon rest MasterChef for a year and come back with a tighter format in 2021 with Gary, George and Matt under a revised contract that does readdress the scheduling and time commitments. Seven have been doing terribly with their new concepts in recent times and I can’t help but think they’ll squander Matt and Gary.
