Airdate: Recovery: The Music and The Mayhem

Dylan Lewis and pals will look back at ABC music show with memories from seminal 1990s Aussie rockers.

As part of Ausmusic month in November, ABC has a one hour retro special Recovery: The Music and The Mayhem.

Former Recovery host Dylan Lewis will look back on the ABC music show which ran from 1996 to 2000.

Along with former co-presenters including Jane Gazzo, film reviewer turned Hollywood director Leigh Whannell and The Enforcer (aka Angus Sampson) they will be joined by Bernard Fanning, Tim Rogers, Killing Heidi, members of Silverchair, Spiderbait, Regurgitator, Something for Kate, Magic Dirt, Jebediah, The Living End, The Superjesus, and more.

“Working on Recovery back in the day was rad. It was crazy, loose and so fun. Putting together this rockumentary has been nostalgic bliss for me and I can’t wait for old fans and new ones to experience it”, says Dylan.

From 1996 to 2000, Recovery was compulsory viewing for a generation of Australians who tuned in every Saturday morning at 9am for three hours of anarchic television. Local and international artists performed live, Hollywood stars dropped by to spruik their latest film and the audience was never quite sure what they’d just witnessed and what mayhem was up next.

Relive the original Recovery experience on a Saturday morning when Dylan takes over the Rage couch to reclaim his 9 o’clock timeslot with a special age-appropriate presentation of Recovery: The Music and the Mayhem. The one hour romp through all that was right (and so wrong) about Recovery, will be followed with Dylan’s pick of some of the most revered and regaled live performances from the vault by the likes of You Am I, TISM, Regurgitator, Magic Dirt, Powderfinger and Silverchair.

For those who grew up with Recovery but now find their Saturday mornings devoted to adulting: the ruder, louder, uncut version will screen on Wednesday 27 November at 9.00pm.

For fans wanting more, additional Recovery content will appear on iview and YouTube following the broadcast on the 27th including full performances and extended interviews.

Saturday 23 November at 9am (repeated Wednesday 27 November at 9pm) on ABC.

  1. Absolutely loved Recovery. The highlight moment for me was what would be my introduction to Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with Jon going absolutely bats*it crazy screaming “Blues explosion! Blues in number 1”. Just phenomenal.
