Airdate: Years & Years

Anticipated new drama by Russell T Davies begins on SBS in early November.

Anticipated six-part UK drama series Years & Years, created by Russell T Davies (Doctor Who, Queer as Folk) begins on SBS in early November.

Starring Emma Thompson (Love Actually, The Children’s Act) it will air over five weeks, beginning with a double episode.

As Britain is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances, Years and Years follows an ordinary Manchester family, the Lyons, as their complex lives converge on one crucial night in 2019. Then, over the next 15 years, the twists and turns of their everyday life are explored against the backdrop of a political world in which the right and left are unrecognisable.

As society changes, faster than ever, the Lyons will experience everything that one hopes for in the future, and everything that is feared. Each episode jumps a year or two ahead, as the Lyons navigate their everyday hopes and fears in an unstable world, and shows a family’s determination to survive the future.

SBS Head of Commercial and Production, Television and Online Content Chris Irvine said, “Years and Years is one of this year’s most confronting dramas whose compelling narrative will leave the viewers asking what impact the choices we make in the present will have in the future. With revered storyteller Russell T Davies at the helm and a stellar ensemble cast led by Emma Thompson, this series, with family at its heart, navigates complex and often unsettling themes with intelligence, hope and warmth. SBS is thrilled to bring this exceptional drama to Australian audiences.”

The six-part drama series also stars Jessica Hynes (Bridget Jones’ Baby, Paddington 2), Rory Kinnear (Spectre, Peterloo, and Brexit), Ruth Madeley (Cold Feet, Don’t Take My Baby), T’Nia Miller (Obey, Marcella), Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax, The Mother) and Russell Tovey (Quantico, Being Human).

The series is created, written and executive produced by Russell T Davies along with Nicola Shindler (Come Home, Butterfly) as executive producer. Directed by Simon Cellan Jones (Boardwalk Empire, Jessica Jones), It is produced by UK-based RED Production Company for BBC One, HBO and Canal+ and distributed internationally by Studio Canal.

Years and Years will also be subtitled in Simplified Chinese and Arabic and will be added to the subtitled collection on SBS On Demand, available immediately following its premiere on SBS. Early this year, SBS launched the Chinese and Arabic collections featuring a range of diverse dramas, documentaries and current affairs programs to enable growing multicultural communities to engage with local and international stories in their first language.

Wednesday, 6 November at 8.30pm on SBS.

  1. Excellent program, thought provoking and an interesting take on where the world could be going…..and very close to the truth.
I really loved the first 5 episodes, and with out giving anything away, the 6 episode seemed to lose the plot…..
