  1. I was just thinking the other day whether it would be achievable for Australia to have a successful local version of Property Ladder, or Homes Under the Hammer. I’m not sure the buy to flip market is as big and successful as it is in the UK. The UK has a higher demand for property and a massive volume of flats, terraces, studios, shops, and houses in need of rejuvenation.

    1. Yes, I fairly much agree with that. Given that much (but not all of course) of UK city housing is in the terrace style, renovating for them is very much limited to using the existing structure, with creating an underground floor becoming more common in the more affluent areas. Whereas in Australia, the prevalence of free-standing dwellings means that knockdown-rebuilds are a far more practical solution. In the suburbs of Melbourne developed in the late 50s/early 60s, knock-down rebuilds are now very common – a lot of builders, including the biggies, now see that as a very viable market niche. My wife and I did it 7 years ago, and a property just across the road have just done it. But I don’t think that knockdown-rebuilds would make for good TV. OTH, “Love it or List it Australia” works very well.
