Bathurst 1000 topped the ratings last night, if strategically coded into separate segments.

In preliminary numbers it drew 795,000 for the bulk of the Race during the day but rose to 1.18m for the Podium, which topped OzTAM rankings. That was up on 2018’s 745,000 Race and 663,000 podium.

Meanwhile The Block won its primetime slot with 1.14m for Nine and topped the demos. Seven’s ABBA Forever special followed at 671,000 then Grand Designs: The Street from 7:40pm on 424,000 and The Graham Norton Show at 358,000.

  1. What annoys me about 60 minutes nowadays is that they mainly do one or two stories and drag them out for about half an hour each with all the usual add breaks. The story itself and many like it last night was one that has been covered again and again so was boring but I miss the shorter interesting ones of years before.

  2. I thought Total Control was excellent. Stoked about its overnight numbers.
Mailman was magnetic in the role, she was amazing. And Griffiths underplayed her part with a steely resolve. They were both great. As was Harry Richardson’s Jonathan who showed snippets of what his character may be up to throughout the show (conniving and rascally, a homosexual undercurrent? And perhaps some developing respect already for his boss).
And it was too soon (although still amazing of course) to see Celia Ireland after Wentworth. My god she’s always amazing. But I digress… the show was fantastic.

    1. Yes, the first episode was absolutely brilliant. Loved it !
Deborah is always exceptional in all her roles, as is Rachel Griffiths.
A stellar cast, including William McInnes, Celia Ireland and Aaron Pederson. Yes, Harry Richardson is excellent as the outwardly cynical, smug Jonathan whom I suspect will turn out to be the new senator’s staunchest supporter.

  3. Some programming decisions from 10 just don’t make sense. Why on earth wouldn’t they try to capitalise on the audience from the Bathurst 1000 by running something decent rather than filling the slot with Graham Norton.

      1. I did actually…and switched off as soon as The Project started (like most other people it seems). My point being, why wouldn’t they have capitalised on such a large audience to try and keep them for the rest of the night.

        1. Probably thought it was good chance to draw in an audience to their regular programming of The Project and Graham Norton (in the 7:30pm slot for the last 3 weeks) and not upset those who usually tune in for those shows. To which Graham Norton was up 91,000 on last week and The Sunday Project 6:30pm up 209, 000 and 7pm 109,000 granted they were against the NRL Grand Final bit still.

  4. Loved the Block reveals last night, and then thoroughly enjoyed Total Control, nice to see TC rate fairly well, with timeshifted numbers it should prove very successful.
