Fake news…. Seven has not confirmed Big Brother

This past week has been a shocker for fake news.

This past week has been a shocker for fake news, beginning with reports that Dirty Dancing beat The Masked Singer in the ratings. Baloney.

That same article magically vanished about 30 minutes after the official ratings from OzTAM told another story.

There have also been numerous articles around a Big Brother revival which hit a peak after a casting notice was published online.

But some reports are so caught up in the frenzy they are misreporting without fact checking.

The Daily Mail says rumours that the show might be rebooted ran rife in light of Gretel Killeen’s appearance on The Masked Singer.

“And they were correct, with Channel Seven shortly after confirming that Big Brother will return next year,” Daily Mail claims.

This is incorrect.

As previously stated, Seven has not confirmed the show’s return and is not in a position to while Nine still has a right of refusal.

The Age also backs this up, noting: “Seven has denied reports this week “confirming” it will bring Big Brother back in 2020, with a network source claiming negotiations over the reality show are ongoing and involve multiple broadcasters.

“Production company Endemol Shine Australia similarly refused to confirm the reports, with a well-placed source dismissing them as ‘media hype.'”

The Daily Mail also claimed in one headline “thousands rush to apply for a place” before then reporting “dozens revealed they had already sent in” their application.

It may well come to pass that Seven will end up as the home of the show in 2020 or even 2021 but as of right now all that is confirmed is a casting notice.

  1. It seems to me it is definitely returning next year in 2020 because with all this hype.! I think it’s coming down to the battle of Channel 9 and Channel 7 fighting it out to determine who wins it. I really think Channel 9 won’t let go of it and should not lose it, Channel 9 should get it/keep it. It will be huge for them, better if Channel 9 has it and not Channel 7, they tend to destroy shows.!! I’d prefer Channel Nine having it for a better future and result or else if the other one gets it it’s ruined. Channel 9 should use the Original format to work properly.

  2. That Sunrise interview to me makes it obvious Gretel will be apart of the new show. She has barely spoken about the show since she left, and now all of a sudden she has a lot to say

  3. I think it comes down to…does 9 have room in their schedule? They really don’t.

7 needs a stripped reality series that isn’t cooking or dating related. But no doubt they won’t confirm until upfronts.

  4. I’m holding out hope that it’s ten and not seven as well. I don’t really feel it’s a seven show but perhaps they need to start steering in a younger skew.

  5. Perhaps it’s a case of show n tell. Put the word out and see what interest is out there for a revival. Many of us romance the idea of a revival but how many will actually invest in watching it today especially if it’s not what we had hoped for??

  6. I know I was a bit excited. The website I was reading was stating they had an exclusive about 7 obtaining the rights. I really do hope 10 get the rights. The same website also said Bev McGarvey is not a fan of the show. So who knows, only time will tell.
