Producers hoping I Am Roxy proceeds to series

Two weeks ago Matchbox Pictures had not heard if I Am Roxy will get a 10 season. But Upfronts are imminent.

10’s 2020 Upfronts are announced on Thursday morning and amongst the many unknowns is whether any Pilot Week titles will proceed to a series.

Sitting in the box seat is reality / observational series I Am Roxy, starring Sydney PR queen Roxy Jacenko. The Matchbox Pictures / 2 Scoops Media project was the highest-rating Pilot Week title of either 2018 or 2019.

Two weeks ago Matchbox Pictures managing director Alistair McKinnon told TV Tonight he was yet to hear any decision on the controversial talent.

“I think Roxy would be the first person to admit she can be a polarising figure. The response on social media absolutely played that out,” he said.

“But there is no denying she is an incredibly successful businesswoman. She knows what her brand is, she understands marketing and PR unlike anybody else in the country, I think, in terms of the way she’s been able to build her business.

“I think 10 are still waiting for aggregated numbers across catch-up and consolidation. They have to look overall at the balance of Pilot Week and what their objectives are for next year.

“Obviously we would love a series pick-up, but it’s just a little bit soon, I think.”

It’s not clear if in the intervening two weeks Matchbox has received the green light to proceed, but look to Thursday morning for an update.

  1. I found it interesting. Sure she’s blunt, but is very successful and appears to be well liked by those who know her.

However I’m not sure enough viewers could give a toss watching a series.

  2. I think it was actually quite a good show…just have to try and keep it different each episode, showing a different aspect of her life every time. Roxy is an interesting character and I think that many around Australia are keen to tune into who she really is.

  3. Of course the producers would say that.

And by 10’s comically low standards these days, I wouldn’t put it past them to approve a pilot that had a debut of 399,000.

    1. I had heard the name but knew nothing about her…since seeing this show…I have nothing but admiration for her… She was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth….she made her life…I would like to see more.

      1. That’s the narrative that Roxy has woven (she is in PR after all). In fact her parents were/are wealthy and were in the clothing manufacturing business supplying Australian chains. The more you know 🙂
