Rebecca Gibney: Rafters revival still has “many hurdles.”

"As we sit here right now, it’s not a ‘thing,'" says Rebecca Gibney. "Yet."

Rebecca Gibney has confirmed a return for Packed to the Rafters has been discussed, but there is no confirmation as yet.

“There is always talk about Rafters coming back. I get asked that question every second day,” she told TV Tonight.

“Yes, there have been discussions. There are a lot of hurdles to overcome -many, many to overcome before that could even become a possibility. It’s definitely not a fait accompli.

“As we sit here right now, it’s not a ‘thing.’ Yet.

“But it might be. It wouldn’t be in the same capacity.”

TV Tonight understands Seven Studios is keen to reprise the series for 6 episodes with Amazon Prime Video, who would also attract the back catalogue of episodes. The new version is whispered to pick up the family six years later and dealing with current issues.

Gibney is currently shooting Halifax: Retribution for Nine and hints at other projects still to come.

“I’m two months into Halifax and it’s great. But I have other ideas for other stuff. Not just Halifax,” she teased.

“I’m looking to do other stuff with Nine, which is exciting. And some stuff in NZ as well, which is really bubbling along.”

  1. It definitely needs to return there are so many fans that want it to return but it needs to be on Channel Seven not Amazon Prime Video because there isn’t much Australian drama on there except for Home and Away and also that’s what it was on when it was on before
