When an innocent African-American doctor is shot by a white police officer in Chicago, the devastating effects are felt by three vastly different families whose stories of loss and tragedy – and their hopes for the future – intersect in this thrilling drama from Emmy winner Ava DuVernay.

The Red Line stars Noah Wyle as Daniel Calder, a dedicated high school teacher mourning the loss of his doctor husband. Daniel tries to push through his pain while now serving as a single parent to his adopted daughter, Jira (Aliyah Royale). Facing the loss of one of her fathers, Jira’s emotional defences impact her relationship with her other Dad – especially when she contemplates a search for her biological mother against Daniel’s wishes. Her mother, Tia Young (Emayatzy Corinealdi), contemplates contacting Jira after the shooting, but her desire to reconnect with the daughter she gave up for adoption might conflict with her aspirations for a political career.

Officer Pete Evans (Noel Fisher) is sickened by his grave mistake, confused by how it happened and forced to face the striking possibility that race could have played a role in his tragic error. The stories of the Calder, Young, and Evans families all converge as they try to rebuild their lives.
