The Living Room: Oct 25

Chris Brown visits the final resting spot of a ship that was once set to become a 10 miniseries.

This week on The Living Room Barry DuBois visits a house built out of the ashes of the Tasmanian bushfires, while Chris Brown visits the final resting spot of a ship that was once set to become a 10 miniseries (it didn’t eventuate), the Batavia.

WOW House with Barry du Bois: WOW House Dunalley
When the Tasmanian bushfires spread through Dunalley in 2013, the Younger family watched in horror as their home was destroyed. With the help of local architect, Stuart Tanner, they have rebuilt their dream home out of the ashes of their old one.

Renovation with Barry du Bois: Sustainable Flemington
The Victoria Racing Club may be best known for the Melbourne Cup but they’re working just as hard off the track as they are on it. With the help of a sustainability charter, the VRC are doing their bit to limit their environmental footprint, focusing on managing waste and watching their water and energy consumption. Barry travels to the home of Australian racing to see these measures in action for himself.

Travel with Chris Brown: Batavia
In 1629, the ship, Batavia, ran aground only 60 kilometres from the shore in Western Australia. The gruesome tale of mutiny and bloodshed that followed has become part of Australian Maritime folklore. Chris visits the ship’s final resting place.

Food with Miguel Maetsre: Binnorie Cheese Tart
Miguel heads to the world-famous wine producing region, NSW’s Hunter Valley, in search of not wine but cheese. The award-winning Binnorie Dairy produces many cheeses, but none more popular than their marinated feta. Using this top shelf cheese, Miguel creates a cheese tart that is guaranteed to please.

7:30pm Friday on 10.
