Foxtel Arts screens a music special, profiling a country music legend.

On Thursday Foxtel Arts screens Hank Williams: Honky Tonk Blues, profiling a country music legend.

The Life and Tragic times of a Country Music Legend. As Elvis was to rock ‘n’ roll, Hank Williams was to country music. Found dead in his Cadillac at the age of 29, Hank had already redefined country blues across America and the world. This award-winning documentary uses classic performance footage, rare archival material, and interviews with family and friends, including Hank Williams Jnr, George Jones, Roy Acuff and Anita Carter, to chart the highs and lows of Hank’s tumultuous, ground breaking career – from his farm boy upbringing in Alabama learning blues guitar from black street musicians, through his stellar rise to the top of the country charts and Grand Ole Opry billing with songs like “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”, to his final years when alcohol abuse and chronic back problems reduced him to playing local beer halls. Featuring 25 minutes of never-before-seen footage, Hank Williams: Honky Tonk Blues is the definitive expose of the original king of country music.

Thursday November 21 at 9.30pm on Foxtel Arts.
