Airdate: Russia To Iran: Across The Wild Frontier

Explorer Levison Wood is taking on a new expedition to cross the mighty Caucasus mountain range that lies between Russia & Iran.

SBS premieres a new doco series Russia To Iran: Across The Wild Frontier (and it’s not all via trains this time), featuring explorer Levison Wood (Walking the Nile, Walking the Himalayas).

This is a 2017 series filmed in 4 parts, although SBS indicates it will screen as 5 eps.

Explorer Levison Wood is taking on a new expedition to cross the mighty Caucasus mountain range that lies between Russia and Iran. Levison is taking a new approach to exploring – making his way by any means necessary. Travelling with the locals and living as they do, Levison’s epic, 2,600-mile journey takes him through five countries, crossing the wild lands on the tense frontier between Europe and Asia, and visiting some of the most fascinating and diverse peoples on earth.

Series One, Episode One:
Levison arrives in Sochi, on the edge of the Black Sea, before flying into the Caucasus region by military helicopter. After being dropped off on a remote mountain track by helicopter, he searches for someone to take him to the nearest town. Levison is making this journey with the help of locals – hitching lifts and catching rides where he can – and he finally finds a driver willing to take him.

  1. I’ve seen a couple of his series’ on Foxtel and really enjoyed them. Some of the scenery and locations are breathtaking, but I mainly enjoy the vastly different locations and people as compared to most travel shows.
