Nine has confirmed Allison Langdon to co-host Carols by Candlelight with David Campbell Live from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl this Christmas Eve.
Her announcement follows Sonia Kruger defecting to the Seven network. The move comes ahead of Langdon joining the weekday Today show in 2020.
“I’m excited to be joining David as the host of Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight,” she said. “With two small children, Christmas is a big deal in my house. I have always loved watching the program from my couch at home, and I am thrilled to be able to play a role in one of Australia’s most loved Christmas Eve traditions.
“I can’t wait to see the great performances and help in raising money for services for children and families who are blind or have low vision.”
David Campbell said: “I love this time of year, and what better way to finish the year than having Allison join in the festivities. Seeing the candles being held up in the air to the kids singing along in the crowd, it is always a wonderful night of Christmas celebrations.”
Carols regulars Anthony Callea, Tim Campbell, Marina Prior, Silvie Paladino, David Hobson and Denis Walter are all confirmed this year, with further names to come.
2019 marks the 40th year of telecasting the event, which is in its 60th year of presentation from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Tickets are now on sale via carols.visionaustralia.org

Why can’t someone like Livinia Nixon do it? She is a local and would be great at it.
Hopefully Nine will let Humphrey make a special appearance to help mark the 40th year of telecasting 🙂
Allison seems to be popping up everywhere on 9 now. Overkill starting to set in for me already.
9 pushing Sydney personalities to host a Melbourne institution yet again
I think we can safely say it’s an Aussie institution now, just like Sydney NYE has national ownership. Hasn’t been Melb personalities since 1999 according to Wiki (Glenn Ridge and Jennifer Keyte). Melb still has highest viewership so no indication of a snub.
And a lot of Melbourne personalities have hosted ABC’s New Year’s Eve coverage of the Sydney fireworks ( and nobody seems to worry).
Fair point. At some point these kind of events pull on their big pants and become nationally owned.
