For the past two years he has held the position of NSW Political Editor for The Australian.

A three-time Kennedy Award winner, Clennell (pictured 3rd from left) has spent two decades covering state and federal politics, first for The Sydney Morning Herald and later as State Political Editor for The Daily Telegraph from 2010 – 2017.

He joins Kieran Gilbert, Laura Jayes, Tom Connell and Annelise Nielsen and will report Live from Parliament House during sitting weeks.

“I am very excited about joining SKY News and being part of one of the most influential and important teams in Australian media when it comes to breaking stories and holding politicians to account,” he said.

“I have spent more than two decades shining a light on our leaders and informing people about what motivates their decisions and what their true agendas are. I am flattered to have been chosen to take up this critical role and cannot wait to join the talented SKY News team.”

In 2020 Ashleigh Gillon also returns from maternity leave, marking fifteen years with the channel.

Paul Whittaker, Chief Executive at SKY News said: “Andrew Clennell has an impressive track record of delivering news breaking stories that set and inform the political news agenda. We’re delighted he joins our award-winning political team led by Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert alongside Laura Jayes, Tom Connell and Annelise Nielsen.

“We also welcome back long-serving SKY News political reporter Ashleigh Gillon as a key member of our team in 2020.”

SKY News is yet to comment on other speculation around its other on air team, including whether Hinch will return in 2020.

  1. So the political editor of the Australian or the man who tells the people at the Australian what to write under orders from NYC
I SKY was not Right wing before this injection of Murdoch it will be as bad as SKY A D when he has finished
Sky A D is full of never were’s, has been’s fools, total knaves & propaganda none of which is Truthful typical Murdoch press,TV

  2. Meanwhile David Speers will present his last program on Sunday morning. He finished up on his self-titled Speers afternoon show yesterday, with little fanfare on air, just a few pleasent goodbyes from regular panellists and his Last Word regulars Paul Murray and Janine Perrett.
