Axed: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Annual US lingerie special ends a long run after a decline in audience numbers and little impact on sales.

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is no more after the lingerie company announced it would end after 24 years, 18 of those on television.

While the show began in 1995 it did not air as an hour long TV special until 2001.

Models were often dressed in six-inch heels, scantily clad in lingerie and sometimes sporting massive wings, on the catwalk alongside performers alongside acts like Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.

It comes to an end both due to a decline in audience numbers and less impact on sales.

L Brands CFO Stuart Burgdoerfer said during a company quarterly call,”We’ll be communicating to customers, but nothing that I would say is similar in magnitude to the Fashion Show.

“With that said, it was a very important part of the brand building of this business and was an important aspect of the brand and a remarkable marketing achievement.”

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has screened in Australia via various broadcasters including Nine and Foxtel.

  1. Just me…but I suspect new world environment …like #metoo…makes both male and female entertainers a little careful about what they attach themselves to ..for fear of backlash or unintended response or actions being misread… with a world full of cameras…everyone is looking over their shoulder….

    1. Yes true but money talks n if no one is buying the products, that reason trumps all. Those models do not come cheap plus ratings also way down so no point really..

    2. I would say its more to do with Instagram and having both models and influencers accessible 24/7. This has led to the standard of beauty shifting, the Victoria’s Secret image seems a little dated. Also, I think the concept of a supermodel died after the Tyra/Heidi/Adriana years.

    3. I agree. A sign of the times when the lingerie, bikini, swimsuit rounds, competitions and judging are increasingly being cancelled and eliminated. Very much outdated nowadays.
