ABC Managing Director David Anderson cancelled his plans to attend the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union general assembly in Tokyo.

Last month TV Tonight revealed Anderson would head to Tokyo for the event, underway this week, while singer Dan Sultan performed in the ABU Song Festival.

ABC spokesman said this week, “The ABC is one of the founding members of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and David Anderson was due to attend the general assembly, to be held on 21 and 22 November.

“However, the MD has cancelled his travel so that he can deal with more pressing issues here, including the ABC’s ongoing coverage of the bushfires as well as the current employee bargaining process.

“We are still sending a representative to the ABU forum, our Head of International Strategy.”
