Ellen DeGeneres to receive Carol Burnett Award

Golden Globes to honour Ellen for outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen

Ellen DeGeneres will receive the Carol Burnett Award at the 2020 Golden Globes.

She will be only the second recipient of the award, following from Burnett’s own honour in January. The award is presented to an honouree “who has made outstanding contributions to the television medium on or off the screen.”

“From her sitcoms, to stand-up, to becoming a household staple on daytime television, she is a pioneer who has captivated audiences for nearly 25 years with her undeniable charm and wit,” Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria said.

“In addition to her television success, she’s an advocate and philanthropist, lending her voice to those who don’t have one, and spreading kindness and joy through the power of her platform.”

DeGeneres is in her 17th season hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show.. Her production company, A Very Good Production, is currently producing Ellen’s Game of Games, plus event series Ellen’s Greatest Night of Giveaways, Little Big Shots, Netflix’s Green Eggs and Ham and Discovery Channel’s Wildlife Warriors. HBO Max has also ordered four original series, including Ellen’s Home Design Challenge, First Dates Hotel, Little Ellen and Finding Einstein.

She also supports global conservation causes.

The Golden Globes will be staged on January 5 (US).

  1. My first thought was really? I think Ellen is sublime but considering they only created the award this year in the name of the first recipient I would have thought Betty White or someone from the generation in between but there’s few left now Mary, Valerie, Bea have departed.
