Screenwest appoints drama development manager

Barbara Connell to oversee Screenwest funding initiatives, for all platforms.

Screenwest has appointed Barbara Connell as Drama Development Manager, to oversee funding initiatives, for all platforms.

Connell is currently Chief Operating Officer and Director, Development for Demand Film in Western Australia. She has held a board position with the Australian Writer’s Guild National Executive Committee and was a founding member of ScreenWriters WA and the Pinnacles Screen Collective.

Connell has over 25 years’ experience as a freelance screenwriter, development consultant and script editor and has held positions as Development Manager with Taylor Media, Acting Development Manager with Screenwest, Acting Director at WA Screen Academy and Senior Project Officer with the WA State Government Department of Culture and the Arts.

Screenwest’s Head of Screen Investment and Strategic Projects Matthew Horrocks said, “Barbara has an uncommon mix of experience. Having a Development Manager who has also run her own distribution company will be a major asset for Screenwest.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Screenwest team and to have this new role through which I can continue to support our local industry,” Connell said. “It is a fantastic opportunity, and I’m looking forward to working with filmmakers at all levels of professional practice in the development and realisation of their stories”.

She begins on Monday 25 November.
