Sunday Night: Nov 10

Steve Pennells story on the Claremont serial killings of WA, plus Rahni Sadler meets Rod Stewart.

This weekend Sunday Night will revisit a Steve Pennells story on the Claremont serial killings of WA, plus Rahni Sadler meets Rod Stewart.

Last month Pennells indicated on Twitter his last story was airing on October 20.

Claremont Trial
In the mid-90s, three young women went missing from the well-to-do Perth suburb of Claremont. Their disappearances over 15 terrifying months, sparked one of this country’s biggest police investigations. Two decades later, it remained one of our most disturbing mysteries.

Sarah Spiers, Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon were all out with friends in the popular nightclub district of Claremont when they disappeared. Sarah was the first. Then six months later Jane went missing. Then eight months after that Ciara vanished.

Many believed the murders would never be solved. The case seemed stone cold.

Then suddenly and unexpectedly in December 2016, police arrested 50-year-old Bradley Robert Edwards. His murder trial begins in Perth later this month.

Senior correspondent Steve Pennells has been following the case over several years. In a special Sunday Night investigation, he explains the twists and turns that led to Edwards’ bombshell arrest.

Sir Rod
After more than half a century on stage, Sir Rod Stewart still knows how to pull a crowd. Sunday Night’s Rahni Sadler was backstage with Rod as 40,000 devoted fans packed a washed-out football stadium outside Manchester.

Sir Rod has certainly come a long way since his first professional gig playing harmonica in the early 60s. He’s now regarded as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of our time with more than 250 million record sales worldwide.

And as Rahni discovered, this 74-year-old rocker is showing no signs of slowing down.

8:30pm Sunday on Seven.
