Trial underway for Craig McLachlan

First days of trial against former Doctor Blake star begin in closed court.

Craig McLachlan attended Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning in a first step to address allegations which have derailed his career nearly 2 years ago.

The former Doctor Blake Mysteries star has halted defamation proceedings against ABC, (former) Fairfax newspapers and actor Christie Whelan Browne after Victoria Police laid indecent assault charges against him.

McLachlan is facing seven counts of indecent assault, one of common assault and one of attempted indecent assault for alleged incidents in Melbourne between April and July in 2014 during The Rocky Horror Show stage production.

The first 4 or 5 days of the trial are in closed court, banned from media reporting, as alleged victims detail accusations including via video link from overseas.

McLachlan has denied all allegations.

Despite his career stalling since January 2018, McLachlan continues to attract support through social media from a passionate and worldwide fan base.

The case is expected to last 3 weeks.
