WIN News presenter retires after more than 30 years in the media.

WIN News presenter Geoff Phillips has retired after more than 30 years in the media.

He joined WIN in 1988.

“When it comes to regional news, the passion and commitment of Geoff Phillips is undeniable,” said WIN Network CEO Andrew Lancaster.

“For more than 30 years, Geoff’s presence across WIN News ensures his absence will be felt. On behalf of everyone at the WIN Network, we wish to thank Geoff for his commitment to regional news and his role in developing WIN News into the leading format and important role it plays today.”

WIN Network News Director Stella Lauri said, “Geoff’s contribution to broadcast radio and television is immeasurable.

“A true professional when delivering the news that matters to local communities, Geoff is not only the anchor that has steadied the ship for more than three decades, he has played a pivotal role in mentoring journalists and cameramen across the WIN Network.

“I congratulate Geoff on his long, successful career and well-deserved retirement.”

Mr. Phillips departs his role as WIN News presenter across the network. Celebrating a media career spanning more than 30 years, Phillips is a key identity in Australian regional broadcast media.

Delivering a full half hour of local news, sport and weather weeknights at 6pm, he was instrumental in driving the continued support of WIN News and engaging passionate regional audiences.

Originally from Nambucca Heads, Phillips’ media career has spanned both radio and TV. While studying for a Psychology degree part-time at the University of NSW, he worked as a clerk, labourer and professional punter before entering the radio industry in 1970 and fulfilling a variety of roles from breakfast host to sports editor and trots caller.

Upon joining WIN in 1988, Phillips focused his passion for sport and radio experience into the role of sports presenter on WIN News. More than three decades on, he departs as a highly respected newsman.

  1. Good on you Geoff you seem like a good bloke and I always enjoyed enjoyed watching your newscasts while I’m in regional areas. Enjoy your retirement !

  2. A real gentleman, giving a lot of time to trainees and work experience people from the UOW on how things work beyond production and editing. A lot of time for local charities and fund raisers. A true professional with zero ego and never heard to fling a curse word at someone who may err in production or presentation.
