Seven claims third summer week as 7food switches off

Ratings: 7food delivered just enough for Seven to win the week, and was then switched off.

Seven has won its third week of Summer ratings with Cricket dominant across latest OzTAM results.

But Seven News (Saturday) was the week’s biggest audience at 981,000 -just 1,000 over Carols by Candlelight.

Seven’s win comes as 7food ends a year of broadcasting, bowing out quietly during Overnight programming.

Ultimately it contributed 0.7% to the week’s share. Given Seven won Total People by 0.6%, it may have just given up the tiny numbers it needed for weekly bragging rights.

    1. Probably would have been a bigger winning margin had the Boxing Day Test and subsequent days been on in prime time and counted. As you say though the BBL isn’t usually up against much so it’s not helping as much as I thought it would either, though Carols by Candlelight probably helped Nine big time.

  1. I thought there wasn’t any need for 7Food as there was already SBS Food. Freeview is supposed to be about choice and that’s how it’s marketed too. If we look at UK Freeview, they also have music video, game show and sports channels, in addition to the other channel genres and concepts that are not shown or implemented yet in Australia. UK Freeview is a good precedent for Australian Freeview.

I think a 24 hour music video channel, similar to Now 90s, Now 80s, Kiss TV or Magic etc. that they have in UK Freeview would be a good addition to Aus Freeview. A game show channel might be more popular for ratings though. The UK game show channel is called Challenge, which has been around since the 90s.
