Tim Minchin hints at more Upright

"We're looking at our diaries," says star of Foxtel drama.

After the success of Foxtel’s Upright, could there be a second season?

Tim Minchin recently told TV Tonight, that the response has led to some discussion.

“Just this week, because of the reaction, season two has becomes serious,” he confirmed.

“We did sit down and do a bit of ‘What would it be if we did it?’ So we have an idea for it has suddenly become very real and we’re looking at our diaries.

“It hasn’t been commissioned, but it’s a real possibility.

“That would have to be next year because I’m putting out an album, writing a new musical and touring again.”

  1. Personally I think Upright finished at an appropriate conclusion to the story, to add another season will just dilute the creativity of season one and not add much else which would be satisfying.
If the show evolves from its road movie theme into another version of the U.S. ‘Shameless’ show it is done for commercial reasons probably because of its sales prospects overseas.

      1. Episode 8 is the final episode I have seen and it featured a conclusion for season one, or at least it seemed like it to me. As far as I know season one of Upright has eight episodes.

      2. Upright is airing Sunday nights on Showcase, ep 6 aired last night. They put all 8 up on Now when it premiered.

S1 is very much a mini-series. They would have to come up with another very good idea to make a second season, and it would be effectively a totally new show.
