FOX is developing a stateside version of Silent Witness.
The British crime drama, created by Nigel McCrery, centres around forensic pathology and stars Emilia Fox, David Caves, Liz Carr and Richard Lintern.
Melissa Leo is attached to lead the US adaptation, and will executive produce with Joy Blake (Outlander), who is writing the adaptation, and others.
Silent Witness, which airs in Australia on ABC, is up to its 22nd season.
Meanwhile Sex and the City writer and producer Jenny Bicks and Bridesmaids director Paul Feig will also adapt UK comedy This Country. The half-hour mockumentary follows a documentary crew, who go to a small town to study young adults and their current concerns. Their focus is the daily lives of cousins Kelly and Shrub Mallet and their idiosyncratic surroundings.

This will flop. Prime Suspect, anyone?
Any one remember ‘The Expert’?, not to mention ‘Quincy’-there’s a long history of forensic scientists as central characters in TV-the thing about ‘Silent Witness” is that it’s been going so long now that plots and the direct involvement of the pathologists has grown utterly ludicrous and unbelievable-I can’t remember the last time a UK drama was successfully remade for US TV,,,
And Halifax back in 2020.
Interesting that it took so long for U.S. producers to want to adapt Silent Witness, however with 22 seasons of the UK version of Silent Witness already released reinventing the show for U.S. and new overseas markets will be a challenge as they have been for other adapted UK shows in the past.
Hopefully with Melissa Leo starring this will be based on the superb early episodes starring Amanda Burton & not the boring Emilia Fox episodes.
