Seven acquires Academy Awards

Seven is now the new home of the Academy Awards, in early February.

Seven is now the new home of the Academy Awards set to air live, and exclusive in early February.

Coverage will start with Sunrise, the only Australian breakfast TV show to be broadcasting Live from the red carpet, followed by The Morning Show. The move from Nine means Richard Wilkins will be unable to cross Live from the red Carpet for Nine, while the situation is less clear for Studio 10.

There is no host again this year.

Oscars nominations were announced overnight with Joker leading the pack with 11 nods. Following closely behind were The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood with 10 nominations apiece.

Australia’s Margot Robbie was nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in Bombshell, her second Oscar nomination.

The 2020 Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.

Live on 7 at 12pm Monday Feb 10 in AEDT states. Live on 7plus in all cities (rpt 7:30pm 7flix).

  1. Think it’s great that this live show has changed channels and I would completely understand if they do the same to 9 (tit for tat) it would serve channel nine right.

  2. I think the reason for the change is because nine was paying for a program that didn’t rate.
the Oscars are not what it use to be, viewer numbers are dropping across the world.
and lets be honest…. its on for one day.

  3. What, how did this happen? Ch 9 have had them since forever. Not happy with having all the Olympic & Commonwealth Games now they have the Oscars too. Damn ch 7. I hope 9 get the next Olympics after this year. Sick of 7 hogging everything. So I guess they’ll go tit for tat & not allow 9 on the red carpet.

    1. 7 are already advertising that they are the only ones that will be on the red carpet and good on them. Seven will do a much better job than the tired old 9.

    2. Actually to think of it 7 has the rights to show ABC programs from the U.S. due to ABC are with Disney (yes I know 7 has lost that now) but I think 7 should’ve had it in the first places years ago due to it.

And I would rather see 7 have the Olympics than 9 leave it to the professionals that know how to commentate and give out the proper information and more experience showing it like NBC in the U.S. The same with the cricket and tennis.
