Airdate: Bushfire T20 Showdown

Adelaide Football Club & Port Adelaide Football Club will join some of cricket’s biggest names in a special T20 cricket match.

On Sunday, Seven Adelaide will screen a Bushfire T20 Showdown with funds raised to help those affected by the devastating bushfires in the Adelaide Hills and on Kangaroo Island.

The Seven Network has united with broadcast production partners NEP and Alston Elliot Australia Graphics to donate their time and services to broadcast the event.

It will screen on 7plus for other cities.

This will be followed by part one of an SA Weekender special Book Them Out which visits the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island to help support the local communities.

A Showdown of a different kind will take place at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, 2 February when cricket and football will unite to raise funds for the SA Bushfire Appeal. Players from both the Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club will join some of cricket’s biggest names in a special T20 cricket match.

Adelaide’s Tom Lynch and Port Adelaide’s Tom Jonas will captain their respective sides, with both leaders determined to secure the T20 Showdown honours. With underage state cricket representation and premiership experience on both teams, combined with bragging rights, it’ll be ‘game on’ from the moment the players take to the field. The remaining players for each team will comprise of four Adelaide Strikers/Redbacks players, one South Australian female cricketer and a CFS volunteer.

7Cricket’s James Brayshaw and 7AFL’s Mark Soderstrom will co-host the match with 7Cricket commentator Greg Blewett & 7NEWS Chief AFL Reporter Theo Doropoulos and Amelia Mulcahy capturing all the fours, sixes and game-turning wickets. More commentators will be announced leading into the match.

Directly following the Showdown, SA Weekender special Book Them Out with hosts John Riddell and Bruce Abernethy travel to Kangaroo Island, their beloved family holiday destination for the past 30 years. They discover that there’s still plenty to see and do over 2, 3 or even 4 days – after all, it’s a big island! Riddell retired from Seven late last year, but having made a career which included hosting The World Around Us series didn’t need any convincing get back to work.

Ron Kandelaars, chats with some local KI businesses, and discovers a whole host of magnificent places to stay and play – and how you can enjoy some R&R island style.

Kelly Golding heads to the Adelaide Hills and visits some of her favourite cellar doors for some cool climate recovery and Briony Hume shares with us some meaningful and delicious ways to support local producers.

To help the locals recover, the message is clear, we need to help Book Them Out! Now is the time to visit the Adelaide Hills, plan a Kangaroo Island escape or simply buy something from a local producer – every dollar spent in these fire affected regions helps support local communities.

  1. The cricket charity match sounds like a very good idea, however, I believe it should be on Channel 7 for all cities, because you’d get much more donations I believe!

    1. Channel 7 already has its hands full on February 2: the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road men’s cycling race on 7TWO, the Bathurst 12 Hour motor race on 7mate and the Twenty20 women’s match between Australia and India on main channel. The Bushfire T20 Showdown telecast in South Australia means the women’s T20I will be shown live on 7flix in the state.
