Renewed: Raising Dion

Superhero drama gets a second season on Netflix.

Netflix has renewed superhero drama Raising Dion for a second season.

Carol Barbee will return as showrunner for the second season of 8 episodes.

The series follows Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), a woman raising her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). The struggles of a single mother are amplified, however, after Dion begins to manifest superhuman abilities. Now, she must keep his powers a secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter) and protect Dion from those who might exploit him.

Production will begin later this year.

  1. based on the production time of Netflix shows that will mean that unless Raising Dion had started season two when filming season one it will be mid 2021 before it is released and Ja’Saih will be a lot older and presumably a bit taller, this was the noticeable thing about Maxwell Jenkins role as Will Robinson in Netflix’s Lost in Space, he had grown a fair bit in seven months (story time), next year he may be as tall as his actor parents.
David Mazouz was another young actor who grew quite quickly during Gotham’s run.

    1. With the way the show is (and comic plus 2015 short film), they could easily write any growth spurt into the series and like you say it is possible given Ja’Siah will go from 8-10 years old if it’s a 2021 release, but at 8 epsiodes October is still possible again.

I remember they did that with Frankie Muniz in Malcolm In The Middle which was well done and like I say be pretty easy to do in Raising Dion as part of his powers.
