Renewed: The Young & the Restless

Four more years for long-running US soap.

Long-running US soap The Young & the Restless has been renewed for four more years.

The CBS daytime drama will reach its 50th year on air in the 2023-2024 broadcast season.

“Having the #1 show for any length of time in any daypart is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement. “But The Young and the Restless has been daytime’s top drama for over three decades. The last time any other show was on top, Ronald Reagan was president, and the Berlin Wall was still standing. It’s a remarkable achievement and a testament to the extraordinary cast, gifted writers, talented producers and supremely passionate fans, as well as our tremendous partnership with Sony Pictures Television.”

“We are thrilled to continue the legacy of The Young and the Restless at CBS, as this renewal will take us to our 50th anniversary in 2023, and beyond,” added Steve Kent, senior executive vice president of programming at Sony Pictures Television. “The iconic characters created by William J. Bell and Lee Philip Bell 47 years ago continue to captivate audiences in the U.S. and across the globe, and we look forward to building on the dynamic storylines featuring these beloved characters.”

Yesterday NBC confirmed Days of our Lives was also renewed for a 56th season.

The Young & the Restless now airs on FOX One.

  1. As an occasional viewer of this soap, it’s a snooze fest at the moment. I really thought it had run out of puff. They constantly rely on their long standing characters when really they should be injecting new life into the show. So very surprised that it has been renewed for another four years.

  2. I must confess that I’m not a soap fan, only the acting style of Ronn Moss on The Bold and Beautiful proved enough of a curiosity for me to watch a few episodes with my partner and I appreciated it can be addictive, I did get over B&B though especially when Ronn left, Ridge was never the same and they just had to bring Ridges character back.
Even my partner says that Young and Restless is boring, and Days of our Lives is a death sentence for some of the long term actors who pass away under contract, but 50 years of one show where the same weathered sets never seen to change, plainly there’s just no imagination being used only an established industry to consider.
