Today giving away a house in viewer contest

First home buyers are eligible for a mega prize located in Melbourne's north.

Nine’s Today show is giving away a megaprize to a first homebuyer, with a new house and land package valued at over $590,000.

The property location in Mickleham, 45 mins north of Melbourne’s CBD.

Karl Stefanovic said: “I’ve been associated with the Today Show for many, many years and we have never had a giveaway of this magnitude. One lucky viewer is going to travel to Melbourne and will walk away with the great Australian dream; a house and land package, and a new lifestyle. It’s unbelievable. With one turn of a key, someone’s life is going to change forever.”

Ally Langdon said: “What an absolutely life changing moment this will be for one lucky viewer and their family. We’re a nation obsessed with talking about property, but the reality of buying your own slice of heaven – and then actually being mortgage free – is become harder and harder for Australians. I’m so excited about this giveaway. What a great way to start 2020! Imagine what life would be like with a dream home and no mortgage? How’s the serenity!”

Entries close on March 29 2020 with the winner announced on April 3rd.

Open only for first homebuyers, viewers will see a designer three-bedroom, two-bathroom single storey home constructed by Simonds Homes captured on our cameras during the course of the 11-week competition. Built on a 350 square-metre block provided by land developer Satterley, the house will be located in the state-of-the-art new estate of Satterley Botanical community in Mickleham, 45 minutes north of Melbourne city.

Every week for 10 weeks, we’ll choose a finalist and announce them on the show. At the end, 10 finalists and a companion each will be flown to Melbourne where Today will be live from the then-completed home. One person will randomly win the home, while the remaining nine will take $5000.

With home ownership now becoming out of reach for many Australians, Today hosts Karl and Ally are excited that they are helping someone live the ultimate dream.

Mickleham is one of Australia’s fastest growing suburbs less than 30 km from Melbourne’s city centre. Satterley’s Botanical community features 2400 lots nestled amongst over 30 hectares of planned open spaces, a planned shopping centre, sports oval and park.

To enter, viewers need to send in a 30 second video about why they deserve to win to: todayshow.com.au or enter in-person at Simonds display homes.

  1. Seems like a great opportunity for some lucky entrant. 45 mins from CBD, decent size block, no mortgage, and I especially like that it is only open to first home buyers, so someone needy should win it. I’m not keen on the video entry or the exposure, would prefer to remain anonymous.

    1. And here we are, discussing how commercial television and advertisers are in bed with each other, and now this. While it is a good thing someone will live in a house, we need to ask who really benefits from this? Maybe the real winner here will be the companies who are involved in this stunt who gets free advertising on a show that is more about ratings than good journalism.

Is this “competition” too soon, especially since one of Nine’s newspapers spoke about deals “news” and “current affairs” programs have with advertisers and not disclose it? And secondly, getting off topic, is Alleged Current Affair airing during the Australian Open?

      1. Dare I suggest you are confusing promotion / competition with news? It is commercial television there will always be partnerships, but it’s about the non-disclosure in news and current affairs. I don’t see any problem on this occasion.

  2. Seems like a bit of a pointless comp if you’re outside of Melbourne. If you win you have to either move, look to rent it out or sell it straight away. Sure its a big prize but not totally practical in execution.

  3. As we speak Seven is stitching up contra deals and trying to find a publicity person to type up their media release for a four bedroom house and a car in the garage.
