Singer Chaka Khan performed the Star Spangled Banner at the 2020 NBA All Star Game today, finding …umm… new notes in the melody…. ahem.
This is up there with Bleeding Gums Murphy on The Simpsons.

I am so fed up with singers indulging in vocal tricks and acrobatics to the extent that you can only barely pick out the melody being sung! If an artist wants to do this type of singing , fair enough, but not when singing the national anthem! They need to show a little respect and stop bastardizing the melody!
Last week she was unmasked on the US version of Masked Singer so she may be trying at a comeback I think !
