Landscaper Charlie Albone has officially joined Better Homes and Gardens and quit Foxtel’s Selling Home Australia.
He follows from recent recruits Sam Wood (Health & Fitness), Melissa King (Gardening) and James Tobin (Tech & Motoring).
They join Johanna Griggs, Adam Dovile (DIY), Charlie Albone (Landscaping), Dr Harry Cooper (Vet), Graham Ross (Gardening), Tara Dennis (Decorating & Design), “Fast Ed” Halmagyi (Chef), Karen Martini (Chef), Pete Colquhoun (Architect).
“It’s a real honour to be asked to be part of such an amazing team,” says Albone. “I will be sharing lots of new and interesting ideas for your garden that will inspire and push boundaries, as well as advice on how to make your outdoor living the best it can be.”
“It was a really difficult decision for me to make,” he told LifeStyle. “I’ve been with Selling Houses Australia for over a decade of my life and I’ll definitely miss Andrew and Shaynna – it’ll be odd not working with them.”
LifeStyle General Manager, Wendy Moore, revealed the news today saying: “After 12 amazing years on an iconic show like Selling Houses Australia, we are obviously really sad to say goodbye to Charlie, but he will always remain a part of the LifeStyle family and we wish him nothing but happiness in his new venture.”
The show is now casting for a replacement.
Charlie has worked internationally and in Australia for the past 17 years, designing and building gardens that are timeless, inspiring and enjoyable to spend time in. In 2015 and 2016, he was awarded two Silver gilt medals for his own gardens at the world’s most prestigious flower show The Chelsea Flower Show. Following this, Charlie was awarded various AILDM and LNA awards for his work including ‘Best Design and Construction of the Year’ in 2018. Charlie is one of only seven international designers who were selected to design a garden for the Beijing horticultural expo running from April until November in 2019.

I would suggest no one should feel too comfy….BH&G has a recorded of dumping people without so much as a by your leave…
So no sooner does Seven shaft Wendy Moore from House Rules, they steal one of her biggest on air talents.
That was always speculative. I don’t recall “shafting” been confirmed anywhere.
just my artistic licence for dramatic effect
It’s a pity Seven & Foxtel couldn’t come to some sort of agreement that would allow him to be on both shows
Interesting that he couldn’t do both shows… they could’ve tied some of the landscaping work together over both shows.
I’ve always enjoyed his back and forth with Andrew on SHA, but good luck to him in his new role
A shame that Charlie is leaving the Selling Houses team. He worked so well with Andrew Winter and Shayna. And he got plenty of airtime over the years on the show.
I do wish him well on Better Homes and Gardens.
Another site saying Charlie appearing in the new season of SHA. I presume this has already been recorded.
It’s a show with a long pre / prdn timeline, so yes he will be in next SHA season.
A big loss for SHA, the comedic jibes between him and Andrew are always entertaining. It’ll be hard to replace him.
Sometimes in life we make the wrong decisions. Sad to see Charlie leave SHA. He’ll still be on-air though in the countless SHA reruns!
Such a shame. Really like Charlie and his relationships with Shaynna and Andrew. He got a fair amount of airtime on Selling Houses Australia. I predict much less on BHG. Must be a pay rise…unfortunately I prefer TLR so doubt I will be joining in to watch him.
