Tonight on Great Australian Railway Journeys, Michael Portillo travels from Canberra To Melbourne.
Armed with his 1913 Bradshaw’s Guide, Michael Portillo crosses the south east of Australia from the seat of government in Canberra to the multi-ethnic heart of its second largest city, Melbourne. Floating above Canberra in a hot air balloon, Michael sees how Australia’s ‘Bush Capital’ was planned in the early 20th century.
7:30pm tonight on SBS.

It will be interesting to see whether he travels from Canberra to Goulburn by train or Canberra to Yass by Bus. The interstate trains between the capitals are very infrequent even though they are popular.
One train per day to Melbourne but with a bus Canberra to Yass station. Lucky he wasn’t traveling on the XPT last week. The best program on tonight.
How can he travel from Canberra to Melbourne using a 1913 guide when Canberra didn’t even exist then?
Canberra was founded in 1913…
Found this on the internet: The capital city of the ACT, Canberra, was founded and formally named as Canberra in 1913.
