“I’m in a very good place at the moment.”

The Chase host looks to return to work soon as part of his ongoing recovery.

Production on The Chase is expected to resume in coming weeks following a halt to new episodes.

A week ago Seven indicated production would be held over for a couple of months while O’Keefe took time to recover from a health issue.

Crew were advised two weeks ago that production had been delayed.

“These thing happen, and it came as a bit of a surprise to me as I’m fit and ready to film,” host Andrew O’Keefe said in a statement.

“I’m not in the least ashamed to admit I’ve struggled at times over the last year with issues around my mental health, but thanks to the excellent support of friends, family and expert clinical practitioners, I’m in a very good place at the moment.

“It’s day by day in these matters, but isn’t that life all over?

“We can never take our physical or mental well-being for granted, because in truth, they’re gifts to be nurtured every moment.”

Seven’s position has since shifted somewhat, now incorporating other undisclosed reasons for the delay.

A Seven spokesperson said, “There are many decisions and considerations to be made when we are about to head into a lengthy production phase. Our decision to hold over the start of production was based on factors beyond the health of our host.”

TV Tonight understands a production date has not yet been locked down.

Seven is understood to have a stockpile of new episodes, meaning viewers should not notice any change to the schedule.

  1. good for you Andrew to handle this with grace when i’m sure you didn’t need your private affairs discussed in the media. I always enjoy watching you on the Chase, your banter with the contestants is spot on & brings out the best in them, exactly what a good host should do.

  2. Not really fair on Andrew, 7 have allowed his health to become a discussion point for a week. What were 7 thinking issuing a statement to say the delay was because of his health when it wasn’t? Glad to hear he’s well though.
And I still don’t know why production of The Chase has been halted. Apparently it’s because 7 is filming too many other shows at the moment. Sounds odd.
