Renewed: Chicago Fire, Chicago PD get 3 more seasons

Prolific producer Dick Wolf has signed a mammoth five-year extension in the US.

US procedurals Chicago Fire and Chicago PD have been given 3 season renewals.

The news comes as prolific producer Dick Wolf has signed a mammoth five-year extension to his deal at Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios, which sources say is worth nine figures.

There are also 3 season renewals for Chicago Med, and Law & Order: SVU, which is being couched as the biggest deal in US TV history.

“I’m gratified and excited that Universal will remain our home for five more years,” said Wolf. “This new term deal complements our recently concluded agreement to make Peacock one of the primary destinations for both the L&O and Chicago brands, as well as our extraordinary three-year NBC broadcast pickups on all four current series. We are now supercharged to expand our business on new platforms, both domestically and internationally, while continuing to produce our current and future series for broadcasting and streaming networks.”

  1. Imagine if an Australian drama (other than Neighbours & Home & Away were to last as long as SVU. Our tax laws are out of date here in an era of global streaming.

    1. Overseas production incentives can be over 30%/40%+. Australia can’t guarantee it to every drama and comedy forever that why there is an episode cap on its funding these incentive deals.
Also being blunt TV production incentive should not be the catalyst for creating programing. It’s only meant to be an incentive to encourage: 1) development of new filming markets (e.g. creating industry from scratch such as in regional areas) 2) social good (e.g. getting minorities or underrepresent people into Film/TV or stores that need to be told but are not commercially viable) 3) used as an incubator to get the show up and running and then it should be able to stand on its own two feet.
Aussie networks need to put funds up and not be dependent on Aus Gov Funding.
