Returning: The Heights

ABC serial returns for its second season in a new Thursday timeslot.

ABC serial The Heights returns for its second season in March, now in a new timeslot.

The 30 part series will air as a single episode weekly on Thursday nights.

Most of the cast return, however this season (in true soap style) Rupert Reid takes over the role of Pav from Marcus Graham.

The Heights, series one was a hit with critics and fans. The Guardian called it “a warm, complex and credible Australian soap opera,” and an engaged and loyal viewer base unashamedly shared their praise on social media at #theheightstv. The series successfully cultivated diversity both in front of and behind the camera and authentically presents the real face of Australia today. The series has created exceptional professional development opportunities for both cast and crew alike and has received numerous awards and nominations.

The ‘slice of life’ serial drama series centres on the inner-city neighbourhood of Arcadia Heights, exploring the relationships between the residents of the Arcadia social housing tower and the people who live in the rapidly gentrifying community that surrounds it. The series presents a medley of characters, cultures, classes and backgrounds from the ‘tower’ community, exploring the relationships, work lives and everyday challenges faced by its characters in an entertaining relationship drama series.

Series two will continue to showcase the life-affirming, family-friendly storytelling audiences have come to expect as we dive even deeper into the world of The Heights. As the show continues its balance of heart, humour and truth, we’ll see favourite characters continue to pull together to triumph over whatever life throws at them. We’ll see relationships strain and falter, friendships tested, and new love blossom as we continue to celebrate the varied and wonderful fabric of modern inner-city Australia and shine a light on the universal connections and commonalities that exist between us all.

Cast returning for The Heights Series Two include: Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires, Thor: Ragnarok), Roz Hammond (Muriel’s Wedding, The Dish, Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell and Thank God You’re Here), Fiona Press (Home and Away, San Andreas), Dan Paris (Neighbours), Calen Tassone (Red Dog: True Blue, Black Comedy), Saskia Hampele (Neighbours, A Few Less Men), Phoenix Raei (Stateless, Wentworth Prison, Romper Stomper, Australia Day), Yazeed Daher (The Hunting, Safe Harbour, Anzac Girls) with newcomers from Series one – Bridie McKim, Mitchell Bourke, Koa Nuen, Cara McCarthy, Briallen Clarke and Carina Hoang, all returning.

Exciting new additions to the ensemble cast are Rupert Reid (The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix Reloaded, Blue Heelers, Winners and Losers, NCIS) and Kelton Pell (Three Summers, Gods of Wheat Street, Cloudstreet) who was a regular in Series 1.

Returning regular guests include Alex Williams (Friday on My Mind, Brock, Underground: The Julian Assange Story) and Asher Yasbincek (Rams).

Thursdays at 8pm from March 12 on ABC.

  1. I stumbled across The Heights and loved it.. Shame Marcus Graham is missing, but hoping his replacement Rupert Reid has similar chemistry with cast members.

  2. Marcus didn’t come back only became a sign of things to come. At the end of shooting the production company Matchbox productions had a garage sale to sell the props and costumes, before putting the sets in the bin. Such a waste of money! It won’t be back.

  3. Obviously some issue or issues must of occured for Marcus Graham not to return for 2nd season, which is shame. One 1/2 ep per week- why not make it a 1 hour drama and combine 2 episodes into 1. Anyway glad the Heights is returning, one of the highlights for the abc in 2019, now all we need is a date for the 4th season of another abc show, Rosehaven 😉
