Veteran reporter to depart Seven News

Veteran reporter Brendan Donohoe has resigned from Seven News Melbourne, after some 30 years with the network.

He has been State Political Reporter since 1990, winning several Quill Awards including the Gold Quill in 2006. During that time he has seen it all on Spring Street from Premiers Cain, Kirner, Kennett, Bracks, Brumby, Baillieu, Napthine and Andrews.

Seven confirmed he has decided to take a step back, but will remain with the newsroom until May.

Meanwhile reporter Dean Felton, most recently working as a freelancer with Seven, also moved on last week, to take up a full-time position elsewhere.

  1. I know quite a few folks in the newsroom of 7Melbourne (both current and former) but even with the “efficiency drive” underway at 7, I’m surprised by the amount of talent they’ve lost in the last few months. Matilda Boseley’s been at 7 only a few months (not that I begrudge her finding another job).

I met Brendan a few times while working on Spring St more than a decade ago. Razor-sharp and from everything I’ve heard, a very generous professional. I’m sure his wife, Caroline, will appreciate having him around a bit more.

  2. That’s a big loss to the Seven Melbourne newsroom… hugely experienced, trusted and so a hard act to follow.
Also – One of Seven Melbourne’s much more junior (but already very good) young journalists, Matilda Boseley, announced on Twitter yesterday she is off to join Guardian Australia.
