10 Play: Drunk History Australia

Anne Edmonds, Osher Gunsberg, Grant Denyer, Bernard Curry amongst tipsy storytellers.

Another series has dropped on 10 Play as part of 10’s 10 new series in 10 days.

This time it is the new series of Drunk History Australia. The six part series kicks off with Anne Edmonds telling the tale of Dame Nellie Melba. Other episodes feature Darren McMullen, James Mathison, Heath Franklin, Brendan Fevola, Matt Okine and guest cast including Osher Gunsberg, Grant Denyer, Tanya Hennessy and Bernard Curry.

“Look we could all use a stiff drink at the moment and boy did I have a few in this first episode of Drunk History. I can’t help but feel that Dame Nellie Melba would be proud,” she said.

This follows from How to Stay Married premiering yesterday.

The format is simple. The country’s best-loved comedians narrate their favourite stories from history, while sipping on their favourite tipple. The result is a hilarious, skewed and anachronistically-challenged anecdote, re-enacted by a comedy ensemble and some very unexpected faces.

Covering almost 200 years of heritage, our well-oiled entertainers will recount 12 stories across six episodes, from cannibal convicts to a female indigenous bush rangers and the first Miss Australia to the country’s darkest political moment, the dismissal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam.

Here, facts collide with fantasy and like every Aussie knows, the truth never gets in the way of a good yarn.

  1. Finished watching the series tonight and I must say I loved it! Hoping enough series will be commissioned, I think it could become a network staple with it being both informative and fun entertainment! Also, loved that it was able to showcase so many young guns and had a good variety/range of celebrities from it’s own network and from outside as well.
