Violence. Lots.
Netflix action comedy movie Spenser Confidential starring Mark Wahlberg, Winston Duke, Alan Arkin and Iliza Shlesinger premieres on Friday.
Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) — an ex-cop better known for making trouble than solving it — just got out of prison and is leaving Boston for good. But first he gets roped into helping his old boxing coach and mentor, Henry (Alan Arkin), with a promising amateur. That’s Hawk (Winston Duke), a brash, no-nonsense MMA fighter convinced he’ll be a tougher opponent than Spenser ever was. When two of Spenser’s former colleagues turn up murdered, he recruits Hawk and his foul-mouthed ex-girlfriend, Cissy (Iliza Shlesinger), to help him investigate and bring the culprits to justice. From director Peter Berg,
Spenser Confidential is an action-comedy co-starring Bokeem Woodbine, Marc Maron and Austin Post. Inspired by Robert B. Parker’s Wonderland, a best-selling novel by Ace Atkins.
Friday March 6 on Netflix.

There is a whole series of Spenser and Hawk books…so a bit of a missed opportunity to do a series? Although I suppose if the film is successful they might look at a series (or more films).
The big budget actors like Mark Walberg are certainly capitalizing from the money tree planted by Netflix, but in fairness Mark has contributed a lot to TV productions in recent times and this movie looks a natural fit for him.
As an observation Netflix still have a preference for making movies, even though some of their movies may have had better potential as a limited season original serial like Adam Sandler’s ‘Uncut Gems’ (as an example).
Cool. I was a fan of the original Spenser For Hire so it’s great to see the concept revived.
